GroupCalendar™ and Exchange server.
Exchange
server 2000 / 2003 / 2007 users should consider the server based version of
GroupCalendar as displayed on
http://www.ExchangeGroupCalendar.com.
If you have specific requirements you can contact us to help you determine the
version you need.
Some possible reasons to use the Outlook®
version vs. the server version.
- The calendar
data should come available in an SQL or Access database for further
automation.
- No access to the Exchange server or policies that prevent installation of
third party software on that.
- Exchange version 4 or 5
Using the Outlook® version with Exchange server.
GroupCalendar™ can use work together with Exchange server but can also operate independently from it.
The usual
installation method when used in conjunction with Exchange server is to install
version SetupUKEx and create a new Public Folder on the Exchange server that all
users connect to from [Settings - select groupcalendar]. The installation
manual assumes this method also.
The advantage of this installation is that the Public folder calendar is always
up-to-date in real-time. Synchronization with the Systray sync tool is not
needed.
The Exchange
version (SetupUKEx) of GroupCalendar™ for Outlook® does not offer the same
functionality as the non Exchange version (SetupUKDA) i.e.
Creating appointments in the Group Calendar folder in Outlook® is not
supported in SetupUKEx if this is a feature you would like to use then don't
install SetupUKEx but install the SetupUK
or SetupUKDA version as if there where no Exchange server.
